10/4/2023 0 Comments Test mako moriI didn't eye roll or think a character decision was stupid, when the film threatened on campy immediately it reversed itself.įor an action movie I loved the characters more than I would a character driven movie. Father and Son, Brother and Brother, Triplets, Husband and Wife. The pilots were universally blood related or married, but their gender was not a defining feature, their relationship however was. Could the supporting cast been more balanced? Yes. Mako when she was a woman first in moments such as, where she proved her self against Raleigh, was only apparent due to juxtaposition (Every one of the dudes that fought Raleigh was male). IE: The russian (No other word for it) badasses whom when they died fought and acted, they were portrayed as equals. their personality it was in moments that completely lay waste to the potential prison their genders tropes threatened to put them in. The times I DID feel that women were portrayed as their gender vs. ![]() I totally agree, when I think back to watching the movie I felt that the movie was completely androgynous. If a guy was in the same seat, he'd have needed the same help. But of course, that's my opinion, and since I'm used to watching action movies (that aren't so kind to women) it seemed like a great step ahead.Įdit: Oh, and the times where Mako needed saving? None were her fault. My overall impression was, when you need to save the world because it's getting destroyed by giant monsters, who gives a shit if you are male or female as long as you help save the world in whatever way you can.Ĭould things have been written differently to include more women? Sure. That line of work would attract more guys than gals to begin with so yes there will be more guys, but the women who did work there were equals. My impression was that it was a world that made sense and seemed realistic. And as was said, there wasn't time to slowly ease into things, you had to be good to go.Īnd I saw women working at the base doing various jobs. I never thought "she's female" I thought "she's a badass." I thought she was originally excluded from being a pilot because of her emotions due to a pretty significant life event highly tied to what you'd be doing at the time of being a pilot. Reading some of these comments, I feel like I watched a different movie than some of you. Īll Related Subreddits & Resources Assault & DV Resources #twoxchromosomes on Snoonet Join our Mod Team!
